Currently, I live in Amsterdam working as a Project/Programme manager for various Bluechip IT/Telecomms & financial companies across EMEA so, I decided to make myself a manual.
People will commit to impossible deadlines, The PM's job is to know impossible.
When all's said and done a lot more is said than done.
Murphy & Sod are alive and well - and working on your project.
Don't worry about hearing whooshing noises as you walk through the office - Its the noise deadlines make as they go by.
This one's under rated perhaps it should be number 1 - Accept that some days you'll be the pigeon and some days you'll be the statue.
A little risk management saves a lot of fan cleaning
Even if there's nothing to report you will eventually spend all your time reporting on the nothing you are doing.
The 3 things to remember "Bulls*it" - "Sorry, it's not in the contract" & people will get upset if you call them an "Oxygen thief".
Accept that as you take on a project it will be in crisis due to the lies that were told to win the business.
The conditions attached to a promise are always forgotten, only the promise is remembered.
